A recently enacted program for the development of a unique, Rankine-Rankine gas-fired heat pump system for a residential application provided the opportunity for developing a counter-rotating bearing and shaft system for the turbomachine module. The overall system description that follows will serve to point out the particular requirements for a high-speed rotor in a gas-fired heat pump.
