A family of radial and axial compliant foil seals has been developed based on the MiTi® 4th Generation compliant foil bearing technology. This patented seal technology maintains close clearance with the rotating elements throughout the operating speed range and can accommodate large shaft radial growth, excursions and even eccentric operation while still maintaining low leakage. The axial seals have been designed to accommodate large axial excursions/thermal growth while operating at high surface speeds. Testing has been completed with air and other gases such as helium to validate the design performance. As with our other products, the non-contacting operation assures long life and low maintenance in a compact package. Custom designs requiring higher pressure and/or temperature conditions are possible and available to meet special needs.
