Lubrication of Mechanical Components at High Temperatures
M. B. Peterson, S. Jahanmir, and L. K. Ives, “Lubrication of Mechanical Components at High Temperatures,” Proceedings of Workshop on Coatings for Advanced Heat Engine, U. S. Department of Energy, Report No. CONF-9008151, Castine, ME, July 1990, 65-72
The general trend in lubrication for the past 100 years has been the gradual increase in the operating temperatures of mechanical components. This has lead to the development of a wide variety of new lubricants, materials, and lubrication systems. In this paper the current temperature requirements for mechanical components are given and various approaches suggested to meet these requirements. Specific materials and lubricants are suggested for selected temperature ranges.
